English language proficiency is an important factor in determining accessibility to health, social, educational and employment services. The lessons are focused on English conversation and basic reading and writing skills. These classes are good for beginners who know very little English. HFRC has partnered with We Are New York to host free ESL classe.
The We Are New York (WANY) Project uses conversation groups throughout the five boroughs to help immigrant New Yorkers practice English and learn about helpful City services. These groups are led by volunteers who are trained by the We Are New York staff. WANY was created by the Mayor’s Office of Adult Education and the City University of New York, Office of Academic Affairs.
It is now part of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. HFRC also offer ESL Classes through the Haitian First Church of Brethren. Register at HFRC for your spot.
